Loreto has been one of the most sough-after pilgrimage destinations since the beginning of the 14 century. Queens, Cardinals and more than 50 bulbs have come to visit the Holy House. Giovanni Paolo II came to Loreto and impressive five times and called it the Marian heart of Christianity. According to the legend, The house of the virgin Mary of Nazareth was carried by angels on the night between 9th and 10th December 1294, and was left on a hill covered with laurel to escape the wars of Palestine. Recent research has verified the originality of the breaks of the holy House of Nazareth, and the historical hypothesis is that the house was carried by the Angeli family on board a ship to the hills of Loreto.
